2010, starting off as a very different year

Well to start with that "Problem with Change Managers" post was also published in the Information Professionals blog.  That was where it was supposed to be published.  Now onto this next post.

Since my last post at the end of 2009, there has been a little bit of holiday rest and a great start to the New Year.  The major highlights have been:

  • Information Professionals has had a busy start to the year.  We have closed more business already this year than we did in the whole first half of 2009.  This has included both new consulting business and contract resourcing business.  This is a very positive start.  I would explain the change in sentiment being due to our clients moving forward positively although prudently with their projects after more than a year of abeyance.  Information Professionals is also moving its Brisbane Office later this month over to the HSBC Building, Level 20, 300 Queen St, Brisbane.  This gives us more facilities, a much more supportive environment for the business, plus we get some lease cost savings too.
  • I reported in December of a new venture called NetSmart Solutions.  That was probably a little premature.  Not because that it is not going ahead, it is already underway, but we didn't have every aspect of the name confirmed.  As such we are having to change its name.  I'll be a little more conservative with the next announcement of a name, as soon as we get everything confirmed.
  • I was approached by a terrific colleague of mine in December to contribute intellectual property and expertise to a new venture he is bringing together.  It resulted in a 3 day launch workshop in Brisbane, in January, with six participants from across the country.  It is too early to talk in detail about this one as yet.  In the mean time, it is great to see plenty of entrepreneurial activity underway.
  • And lastly, I was fortunate enough to ski Whistler at the beginning of 2008, and I have been to Vancouver twice, in 2006 and 2008.  What a great city Vancouver is, and what an awesome couple of mountains, and an amazing village it is at Whistler Blackcomb.  The Winter Olympics is making me miss them even more.  Go Aussies!!
Best wishes for a great start to the year for all.
